The convergence of technology and business trends has brought a new means of acquiring computing within the reach of enterprise today. The past one year has seen the emergence of a new breed of business computing provider - the Application Service Provider (ASP). A new delivery model is now emerging that will completely transform how businesses and individuals gain access to software applications - via the Internet or computing to customers from a network based data center. Enterprises no longer have to own or operate the hardware and software on which their business computing runs. Instead they pay a fee to the ASP according to the usage. This rapidly growing IT delivery channel is already entering a new phase of development. ASPs will represent a $6 billion market by 2001 (Forrester Research). The potential market for Applications Service Providers (ASPs) is forcing all sectors of the IT and Telecommunications industries to reassess roles and opportunities in the new millennium. Leading IT and network equipment suppliers are announcing major initiatives to seize a leadership role in the development of the ASP infrastructure; software vendors are creating programs and partnerships to promote hosted applications; ISPs and other network service providers are launching new application services; and venture fund is flowing into this emerging sector creating new companies that will force traditional service providers to closely re-examine and radically change their business models. ASP World 2000 trade show and conference will provide attendees an understanding of key developments and directions of the ASP market. A combination of keynote presentations, panel discussions and in-depth sessions. The ASP World 2000 conference program will explore emerging ASP business opportunities, assess newer ASP business models and service delivery practices, and evaluate technology infrastructure requirements to support ASP business development. |
