Topic: Demystifying DR as a service
Show Synopsis || Hide Synopsis
When disaster strikes, the only effective way to safeguard your company assets and reduce your risk profile is through a well thought out business continuity and disaster recovery (BCP/DR) plan. The traditional disaster recovery model doesn't fit today's complex IT environments with multiple operating systems and diverse Web applications. This presentation highlights the challenges companies face while having to maintain a traditional DR model as against the new age "DR as a service". This subscription based service approach to DR allows greater simplicity, reliability and cost savings.

Topic: Global Trends in the Data Center
Show Synopsis || Hide Synopsis
The Data Center is now the linchpin of the network, and an unending growth in bandwidth demand and requirements for high quality services has changed the models for both enterprises and managed hosting providers. Further, economic pressures are leading to dramatically reduced IT spending in the data center through virtualization, cloud computing, blade servers, multi-core processors and 10 GbE, by data center consolidation projects or by outsourcing to managed hosting providers. In addition, "green" initiatives - instituted by internal or external requirements - add yet another set of challenges. This session will examine the state of the data center today, with a view toward trends and challenges in the future.

Topic: Build vs. Buy - The Choice on Data Centers
Show Synopsis || Hide Synopsis
Organizations faced with fast pace growth while having to keep up by providing "state of the art" applications and technology within their data center, are finding that building and maintaining their data center is a full time job. With growing pressure on IT budgets, more CIOs are turning to managed service providers to cut costs, manage scalability and increase governance. This presentation talks about the choice organizations have; build and maintain their own datacenter as against outsourcing to a managed service provider who have the expertise to incorporate best practices and process improvements that can achieve true economies of scale.

Topic: Information Security Management in Data Centres
Show Synopsis || Hide Synopsis
Data Centres today shelter critical & sensitive information, be it for in-house usage, for the customers or for the business. In the era driven by information technology, where information is an asset and has value to an organisation, it becomes imperative for the data centres to practice discreet and robust security management methodologies to safeguard their clients’ assets against accidental loss, damage, or divulgence of data/ information.
Information Security Management System (ISMS), an internationally recognized structured methodology, is a risk based approach for protection of critical information and information processing assets. ISMS provides a balanced approach towards physical, technical, procedural and personnel security. ISMS adopts the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) model which takes information security requirements as the input and provides a robust model for providing security design and implementation, security management and reassessment aligned with the principles in governing risk assessment.
ISMS is not intended to make systems 'hacker proof' but provide for mechanisms which to an extent anticipate potential problems, pre-empt problems through pro-active measures, protect against considerable damages and ensure recovery and restoration of the effected system. ISO 27001 certification is awarded to facilities that are proven to have such capabilities. The certification underlines the importance organisations place on information security, and endorses the organisation's successful efforts to adopt professional, world-class standards.
National Informatics Center, in its endeavor to maximize excellence and provide IT governance aligned services, has imbibed the best practices and complied to various standards. The data center at the headquarters of National Informatics Center, is certified for ISO 27001 standard, thereby ensuring that the blend of the specifics of management system and information security are key to effective service delivery. Experience gained in the process shall also be shared during the presentation.
