James Longwood

James Longwood is a research vice president for Sourcing in Gartner Research, where he is part of the Asia/Pacific IT services team. He is responsible for undertaking research on sourcing trends and external service providers in the Asia/Pacific IT service market as well as providing industry analysis and strategic advice for regional Gartner clients and IT sourcing policy makers.

Mr. Longwood has over 25 years of experience in IT systems, which he gained in private industry, mining, utilities, wholesale distribution and government. Mr. Longwood spent 20 years working for consulting, global services and vendor organisations.

Previous to his current position, he was in Gartner's consulting group, where he helped clients develop sourcing strategies, prepare outsourcing requests for proposals (RFPs) and service-level agreements (SLAs) as well as undertaking independent assessments of outsourcing/vendor selection and systems integration RFPs, contracts and proposals. This included SLA development for a number of insourced organisations. Prior to joining Gartner, he was at Fujitsu and CSC, where he worked as a systems engineer, product marketing manager, solution architect, and bid manager and assisted with contract negotiations for various outsourcing and systems integration deals.

Mr. Longwood holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours, majoring in Applied Mathematics, and a Graduate Diploma in Computer Studies.
