Steve Bittinger Research Director Gartner Analyst Steve Bittinger is a research director in Gartner Research, where he focuses on broad areas of research as well as specific client focus areas such as e-government, security, privacy, management practices, business transformation, large-scale infrastructure and operations, process improvement, customer relationship management, higher education, architecture, open source and Internet telecommunications. Mr. Bittinger has more than 30 years of professional experience in the IT industry. Prior to joining Gartner at the beginning of 2001, Mr. Bittinger was the chief technology officer at inter-touch, providing broadband Internet access in five-star hotels worldwide. Previous to that, he was the global infrastructure manager at Reckitt & Colman, responsible for strategy, standards and infrastructure, including developing a global network that linked 100 locations in 45 countries. Mr. Bittinger has also served as technical director at Pegasus Networks, an Internet service provider. His broad experience also includes management roles at the University of Tasmania and Shell Oil New Zealand, covering telecommunications, data centre operations, client services, software development, pre-sales support, public relations, marketing, retail sales and publications. He has worked full time in the IT industry since 1974, with more than 20 years of experience in Australia, New Zealand and the U.K. Mr. Bittinger earned a Bachelor's degree with Honours in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 1974.
