Shri Arvind Sharma is Director, Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT), Hyderabad. Prior to taking over as the Director of the IDRBT, Shri Sharma was Executive Vice President, Larsen & Toubro Infotech Limited, Mumbai, where he headed the Enterprise Applications Solutions Business and coordinated the Telecom, Commercial and Defence Industry verticals. He was also responsible for the IT business in India, Middle East and Africa regions.
Shri Sharma is an Engineer by profession, has a Master’s degree in Business Management and brings with him over 30 years’ experience in IT Consulting. He was Chief Architect and Program Manager for many large end-to-end turn-key projects such as Indian Railway’s Passenger Reservation System, Automation for many banks, Computerized Mediterranean Olympic Games Management System, New Bombay Port Automation, London Underground Scheduling, SCADA-based Load Dispatch Systems, Revenue Assurance / Fraud Management System and OSS / BSS Applications for Telcos. Shri Sharma was the CEO of Intelligroup Asia and also Unit Trust of India Investor Services. He has worked as an Adviser to the Government of Mauritius, where he spearheaded a team responsible for planning and establishing Informatics (computers and communication) infrastructure in Mauritius. Apart from being the Head of Oracle Consulting in India, and Head of CMC’s R&D center in India, Shri Sharma was also the Resident Manager for Tata Consultancy Services. Shri Sharma was a member of national committees (including Railway Freight Automation and RBI's Saraf committee on Technology Issues in Indian Banking) and has been a consultant for various World Bank Projects. He possesses the unique strength of forging strategic alliances, collaborations and partnerships to successfully handle program management of large turnkey projects and Account Management of strategic accounts. As the Head of quite a few organisations, Shri Sharma has been responsible for Technology Selection, P&L and Sales Targets. Shri Sharma has also been instrumental in establishing large offshore development centers at Tata Consultancy Services and Intelligroup Asia. Some of the large offshore businesses established by him include offshore development centers for large clients such as Lucent Technologies, EDS, GE, Amex, TRW, Chevron, Motorola and Lafarge. Shri Sharma has presented many research papers in international forums and has won many prestigious awards including the “Young Manager of the Year Award” from All India Management Association, in 1982, given away by Mr. J R D Tata; “Parliamentary Forum on Public Sector Undertakings Award” in 1986, presented by Shri Rajiv Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India and the “IT Person of the Year Award” for year 2000 from the Hyderabad Management Association. | ||
