Claus is currently Senior Director of Storage Applications at Hitachi Data Systems. Claus joined HDS in 1998 and is currently responsible for new technology research for storage applications, storage virtualization, and Data Lifecycle Management. During his tenure with HDS, Claus designed and patented the technology for NanoCopy and other related products, and continues to work with HDS' business partners and other vendors on developing complimentary architectures for storage solutions.

Most recently Claus was instrumental in defining many of the requirements and capabilities of Hitachi's latest product, the TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform, a new-generation storage virtualization foundation.

Prior to joining HDS, Claus was with IBM where he defined and architected the first intelligent storage arrays. He was the chief architect for IBM's storage replication and disaster recovery products, a position he held for 15 years. Between HDS and IBM, Claus holds 16 patents for storage subsystem architectures (with an additional one pending), and is on the Technical Advisory Board for a Silicon Valley company.

Claus co-authored a book on disaster recovery called "The Resilient Enterprise" and has contributed numerous articles and white papers on storage availability, virtualization, disaster recovery, and data center resiliency. Claus is also a frequent speaker at industry events and given keynotes at numerous conferences worldwide.
