Dr. R. B. Barman is an Executive Director in the Reserve Bank of India since November, 2000. At present he holds charge of the Department of Statistical Analysis and Computer Services and the Department of Information Technology. Dr. Barman holds a Master's degree in Statistics and Doctorate degree in Economics. Dr. Barman's professional interest also includes business information technology and payment system. His contributions in these areas have spanned several professional journals, books, monographs and reports. Dr. Barman is a member in the executive committee of a number of professional societies and institutions of repute. He is also a member of Editorial Board of two professional journals.

In the area of Information Technology, Dr. Barman has been actively involved in the projects relating to data warehousing, having built an enterprise wide DW for the Bank, and payment systems. Under Dr. Barman's guidance the Reserve Bank has made rapid progress in implementation of major IT Projects including RTGS and Cheque Truncation.
