Decks being cleared for Bangalore IT.COM 2001
Bangalore - June 7, 2001 - Bangalore IT.COM,
Asia's biggest IT and telecom event, is announced to be held from
November 1-5, 2001 at Bangalore, India's 'IT Capital', that has
emerged as the business hub for diverse markets such as IT, Software,
Hardware, IT enabled services, Biotechnology, Banking and Finance.
"The event is aimed to consolidate India's positioning among
the world IT community," says Vivek Kulkarni, IT secretary,
Government of Karnataka.
Leading IT companies and professionals, besides the government functionaries are expected to participate in the five-day mega show. It will attract among others CEOs, CIOs, CTOs, COOs, policy makers, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists. Besides the trade show, the knowledge conferences on 'IT for the common man', 'VC forum', and 'technology next' will throw light on the contemporary issues related to the respective areas. Wireless access, e-business, mobile computing, IT-enabled services, venture capital and e-security will be among the other topics of discussion.
However, the spotlight will be on the 'GLOBAL BUYER-SELLER MEET',
happening for the first time, which is a powerful forum where the
International and domestic industry will meet face to face to strike
business deals and alliances. "The activities like a mammoth free
cyber café at the venue and rural IT quiz are among the Government
of Karnataka's initiatives to inculcate IT awareness at the grass
roots level," says Kulkarni. According to him, in order to attract
global participation, from June 15, 2001 the show will also be promoted
through roadshows in the USA.
The popularity of the annual Bangalore IT.COM can be assessed from the fact that last year about 400 companies, 60,000 business visitors, 600 international delegates from USA, UK, Japan, Germany and Singapore participated, and business worth US $200 million was transacted.

The spotlight of Bangalore IT.com 2001- Asia's biggest information technology and telecom event - will be on a 'global buyer-seller meet', happening for the first time, a forum where the international and domestic industry will meet face-to-face to strike business deals and alliances.
Karnataka is the host state, while NASSCOM
and STPI will be the co-sponsors of the event,
Trade Fairs and Conferences International will be the Event
Manager.
This year's meet is expected to be a bigger hit than last year. The previous edition transacted business worth $200m. It drew more than 400 companies, 60,000 business visitors, 600 international delegates from the US, UK, Japan, Germany and Singapore.
Besides the trade show, the knowledge conferences at Bangalore IT.com 2001 on 'IT for the common man', 'VC Forum' and 'Technologynext' will also throw light on the contemporary issues related to the respective areas. Wireless access, e-business, mobile computing, IT-enabled services, venture capital and e-security will be among the other topics of discussion at the show.
Karnataka Chief minister SM Krishna, who launched the campaign for this year's IT-mart, said the state's IT export has touched Rs. 7,300 crore. Manipal in Dakshina Kannada and Mysore's share were Rs. 40 crore and Rs. 10 crore respectively. Encouraged by this trend, government plans to launch a strong initiative to push IT to other towns and cities with good infrastructure and decongest Bangalore city.
Union IT secretary Vinay Kohli, who spoke on the occasion, said the country had exported $6.1bn worth of software products in '00-01, of which $1.6bn (30 percent) was from Bangalore. He hoped that Bangalore will cross Rs. 11,000 crore in software exports this year. According to Mr. Kohli, the government was actively considering to set up incubation facilities to help entrepreneurs start India-centered technological companies.
"The event is aimed to consolidated India's position among the world IT community. In order to attract global participation, from June 15, the show will also be promoted through roadshows in the USA," said Karnataka IT secretary, Vivek Kulkarni.

KARNATAKA is bullish on playing the role of a facilitator by focusing on a "global buyer-seller meet" at Asia's biggest IT and telecom event, the Bangalore IT.com 2001, scheduled to be held in November.
The focus of the fourth 5-day mega event, aimed at consolidating India's position in the global IT community, is to provide the small and medium enterprises a platform to strike business alliances with foreign players, who have participated in previous years.
The road shows for the event would begin in the US from June 15. "We have had a good experience by providing such a platform for small and medium enterprises for business alliances with Singapore and Malaysian companies," says Vivek Kulkarni, Karnataka's IT and biotechnology secretary.
"So, we are replicating it on a larger scale at this year's IT.com," Mr. Kulkarni said. Mr. Kulkarni on Friday launched the marketing effort for Bangalore IT.com 2001, five months ahead of the annual event that attracted over 400 companies, 60,000 business visitors and 600 international delegates from the US, Britain, Japan, Germany and Singapore last year.
Officials estimate the business generated by the event to be of the order of $200 million.
